pH Value

pH value is an indicator of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, ranging from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral, below 7 acidic, and above 7 alkaline. In foreign trade, pH value is commonly found in specifications and quality requirements for chemicals, cosmetics, food, textiles, water treatment agents, and other products. Usage scenarios include: quality clauses in contracts, product instructions, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), test reports, document requirements in letters of credit, etc. Precautions: Different products have different allowable pH ranges, e.g., cosmetics typically require pH 5.5-7.5, while certain chemical raw materials may require specific acidic or alkaline ranges; pH value is affected by temperature, so the test temperature must be specified; measurement methods (e.g., pH meter, test paper) may affect results and must be clarified in the contract. Differences from other terms: pH value is different from the qualitative description of acidity/alkalinity; it is a quantitative indicator; it is also different from concentration, as it is a logarithmic scale.
