Lamination

Lamination is a common term in foreign trade packaging and printing, referring to covering the surface of paper, cardboard, or plastic film with a layer of transparent plastic film (such as BOPP, PET, PE), bonded by heat pressing or adhesive process to enhance gloss, water resistance, wear resistance, and tear resistance. Usage scenarios include product outer packaging boxes, instruction manuals, labels, handbags, etc., especially suitable for export goods that need to be upgraded or protect the printed surface. Precautions: Lamination is divided into glossy film and matte film; the type of film, thickness (such as 15μm, 18μm), and lamination method (hot lamination or cold lamination) must be clearly specified in the contract; it is necessary to confirm whether it is environmentally friendly and recyclable, as markets such as the EU may restrict PVC lamination. Compared with 'Varnishing' and 'UV Coating', lamination provides stronger physical protection but is more costly and may affect paper recycling. Unlike 'film sticking', lamination usually refers to overall coverage after printing, while film sticking mostly refers to local or post-process bonding. In foreign trade documents, it should be accurately described as 'Lamination' with specifications noted, to avoid confusion with 'Coating'.
