Sample Modification

Sample Modification refers to the process in foreign trade where the buyer or seller requests changes to the design, material, specifications, color, packaging, etc., of an initially provided sample, and a new sample is made accordingly. It is common in OEM/ODM orders, customized products, and the sample confirmation stage. Usage scenarios include: the customer provides feedback for modification after receiving the initial sample, the factory re-makes the sample based on the modifications, and both parties confirm the modified sample as the production standard for bulk goods. Precautions: 1) Modifications must be specific and clear, preferably with written instructions or drawings to avoid ambiguity; 2) Modifications may incur additional costs (such as sampling fees) and time delays, and the responsible party should be agreed upon in advance; 3) The modified sample should be confirmed in writing by the buyer again (such as signing off on the sample) to prevent bulk goods from differing from the sample; 4) Unlike 'sample confirmation,' modification is an adjustment step before confirmation, while confirmation is final acceptance. Difference from 'sample redo': redo may be due to the original sample being completely unqualified, whereas modification is usually a partial adjustment based on the original sample. Mastering this term helps reduce disputes and improve order execution efficiency.
