Delivery Time

Delivery Time refers to the point in time when the seller delivers the goods to the buyer or the carrier, and is one of the core clauses of a foreign trade contract. It is usually used in combination with trade terms (such as FOB, CIF) to specify the deadline for the seller to complete delivery at the port of shipment, or the date by which the buyer requires the goods to arrive at the port of destination. Use scenarios include contract signing, letter of credit issuance, production scheduling, and logistics arrangements. Note: Delivery Time is different from 'Shipment Date'; the former emphasizes actual delivery, while the latter focuses on loading the goods onto the vessel. Under FOB, Delivery Time usually refers to the shipment date, while under CIF it may refer to the arrival date. In addition, Delivery Time must clarify whether partial shipment and transshipment are allowed, and take into account production, inspection, booking, and other timing considerations. Compared with 'Delivery Period,' Delivery Time focuses more on a point in time rather than a time span. If Delivery Time is delayed, it may trigger liquidated damages or a discrepancy under the letter of credit. Therefore, in business practice, a buffer period should be reserved, and the definition of Delivery Time and liability for breach should be clearly stipulated in the contract.
