Booking Confirmation / Space Confirmation

Booking Confirmation (also called Space Confirmation) is a key document in foreign trade logistics. It refers to a written notice from a freight forwarder or shipping company confirming that space has been reserved for the shipper. Typical usage scenario: after the shipper submits a Booking Note to the freight forwarder or shipping company, the latter allocates space based on route, sailing schedule, container type, etc., and upon success issues a Booking Confirmation. This confirmation contains core information such as vessel name, voyage number, sailing date, cut-off date, bill of lading number, container type and quantity. Notes: 1) The confirmation is an important voucher for subsequent container pickup, customs declaration, and loading; information must be carefully checked, and any errors should be immediately corrected. 2) It is not equivalent to a Bill of Lading; it only represents space confirmation, and a Bill of Lading must be exchanged after the cargo is actually loaded. 3) Unlike a 'Booking Acknowledgment', a Booking Confirmation emphasizes that space has been allocated, whereas a Booking Acknowledgment only indicates receipt of the booking request. It is similar to a 'Space Release', but a Space Release is sometimes used to specify a particular container number. In short, the Booking Confirmation is a key link between booking and shipment, and foreign trade practitioners should keep it properly and follow up promptly.
