Guarantee Scan

Guarantee Scan refers to an electronic copy of a bank guarantee or commercial guarantee formed by scanning, usually sent in PDF or image format via email or electronic platforms. In foreign trade, guarantee scans are often used in scenarios such as advance payment guarantees, performance guarantees, and quality guarantees, serving as temporary proof before the original guarantee is mailed, so that the beneficiary can quickly verify the guarantee content and start production or release goods. When using a guarantee scan, note: the scan itself has no legal effect, and the bank's original shall prevail; the beneficiary should carefully check key information such as bank seals, test keys, amounts, and validity periods on the scan to prevent forgery or tampering; if the contract requires payment against the original guarantee, the scan is for reference only and cannot replace the original. Unlike a 'guarantee copy', a scan emphasizes electronic transmission, while a copy may be a paper photocopy; compared with electronic message formats such as SWIFT MT760, a scan is an image of the guarantee, not a standard electronic message. In practice, it is recommended to specify in the contract the effect of the guarantee scan and the time limit for subsequent exchange of the original.
