Notify Party

Notify Party is an important field on transport documents such as bills of lading and air waybills. It refers to the party that the carrier needs to notify after the goods arrive at the destination port. It is usually the buyer or its designated customs broker or freight forwarder. The Notify Party is not the consignee, does not own the goods, and is only responsible for receiving the arrival notice and handling subsequent cargo pickup and customs clearance procedures. Usage scenarios: When the consignee is a bank, intermediary, or needs confidentiality, a 'To Order' bill of lading is often used, and the Notify Party becomes the actual contact party. Precautions: The Notify Party's information must be accurate, including name, address, phone number, etc., otherwise it may cause notification delays and incur demurrage charges; if the consignee and Notify Party are the same, 'SAME AS CONSIGNEE' can be filled in. Difference from consignee: The consignee has the right to take delivery of the goods, while the Notify Party is only notified and has no right to take delivery unless it is also designated as the consignee. Difference from shipper: The shipper is the exporter, and the Notify Party is the importer's contact.
