Counter Sample

A counter sample refers to a sample that the seller makes by replicating or modifying the original sample or design drawing provided by the buyer, and then sends back to the buyer for confirmation. Its core function is to let the buyer confirm the seller's understanding and replication capability of the original sample, as well as the quality standard of the final product. It is commonly used in OEM/ODM orders and sample-processing trade. When the buyer provides a sample and requires the seller to produce according to it, the seller must first make a counter sample for the buyer's written confirmation before mass production. Notes: The counter sample must be as consistent as possible with the original sample in materials, workmanship, specifications, color, etc., and any deviation must be clearly marked. Once confirmed by the buyer, this sample usually becomes the final basis for delivery quality, and the seller must properly keep the confirmed sample. The difference from the 'original sample' is that the original sample is provided by the buyer and is the original quality reference; the counter sample is provided by the seller and is the seller's replication and confirmation of the original sample. Unlike a 'sales sample', a counter sample is not used for market promotion but for order confirmation. If the buyer does not confirm the counter sample, the seller should not rush into production; otherwise, it may bear the risk of quality nonconformity.
