Payment Refund

Payment Refund refers to the act, in foreign trade transactions, of the seller or platform returning funds already paid by the buyer due to reasons such as order cancellation, non-conforming goods, quality disputes, delivery delays, or mutual agreement between the parties. Use scenarios include: order cancellation after advance payment, refunds under letters of credit, refunds from disputes on e-commerce platforms, refund of sample fees, etc. Notes: it is necessary to clarify the reason for the refund, allocation of responsibility, refund amount (whether fees are included), refund currency and exchange rate, refund time limit and channel (T/T, PayPal, credit card, etc.); if a letter of credit is involved, UCP600 rules must be followed. Unlike 'Payment Refusal,' a refund is a return after payment has been made, whereas refusal is a refusal to pay; unlike 'Write-off,' a refund is an actual return of funds. Foreign trade practitioners should stipulate refund clauses in contracts, keep communication records, and avoid additional costs or legal disputes arising from refunds.
