Copy B/L

Copy B/L refers to a photocopy or electronic scanned copy of the Original B/L, usually marked with "Copy" or "Non-negotiable," and does not function as a document of title. Its main usage scenarios include: 1) The consignee uses the Copy B/L together with the Original B/L or other guarantees to take delivery of goods (such as telex release or sea waybill); 2) The exporter uses it for internal filing, pre-review before bank document presentation, and providing cargo information to customers; 3) The freight forwarder or shipping company uses it for business records. Notes: A Copy B/L cannot be used for taking delivery of goods or transfer unless specially authorized by the carrier; if the importer takes delivery of goods only with a Copy B/L, it is usually necessary to provide a bank guarantee or submit the Original B/L afterward. Difference from the Original B/L: The Original B/L has the functions of a document of title, is transferable, and can be used to take delivery of goods; the Copy B/L is only for reference or auxiliary purposes. Difference from the Sea Waybill: The Sea Waybill is non-transferable but can be used to take delivery of goods, while the Copy B/L has no delivery effect at all. In practice, it should be avoided to mistakenly use a copy as an original in order to prevent disputes over cargo rights.
