Shipment Date

Shipment Date refers to the date on which the seller delivers the goods to the carrier and completes loading or dispatch. It is one of the core clauses in foreign trade contracts. Its usage scenarios include: agreeing on the latest shipment date when signing the contract, stipulating the shipment date in a letter of credit, and coordinating production scheduling with logistics. Precautions: 1) It should be clearly stated as 'shipment date' rather than 'arrival date' to avoid confusion; 2) If the letter of credit stipulates a shipment date, shipment must be completed and the bill of lading obtained before this date, otherwise there may be discrepancies; 3) The shipment date is different from the delivery date; the former refers to the departure of the goods from the port, while the latter may refer to the time when the buyer receives the goods; 4) Shipping schedules, holidays, and force majeure should be considered, and it is advisable to allow a buffer. Terms easily confused with 'shipment date' include 'Latest Shipment Date' and 'Shipping Window,' the latter allowing a range of dates. Accurately agreeing on the shipment date helps avoid breach of contract and demurrage charges.
