Container Yard

Customer-managed Container Yard (CY) is a facility used in container transportation for the handover, storage, and custody of containers, typically managed by the shipping line or terminal operator. In foreign trade, CY often serves as the delivery location or the container yard at the port of shipment/destination. For example, under trade terms such as FOB and CIF, the seller must deliver the goods to the designated CY. Use cases include: handover of full container load (FCL) cargo, container pickup and return, storage and transshipment. Notes: CY differs from Container Freight Station (CFS); CFS handles less than container load (LCL) cargo, while CY only handles FCL. In addition, CY charges (such as storage fees and handling fees) must be clearly allocated to avoid disputes. Compared with 'Door,' CY is a fixed yard at a port or inland location, while Door refers to the shipper's or consignee's warehouse. Foreign trade practitioners need to specify the CY name, address, and cost allocation in the contract to ensure smooth logistics.
