In foreign trade, a competitor refers to another company that offers similar or substitute products in the same target market, and whose actions directly affect your pricing, market share, and customer negotiation power. Usage scenarios include market research, customer negotiations, pricing strategy development, trade show intelligence gathering, and anti-dumping responses. Note: distinguish between direct competitors (same product category, same price range, same channels) and indirect competitors (substitutes or different positioning); when analyzing, focus on their price, quality, delivery time, payment terms, certifications, and after-sales service, not just price. Unlike a 'peer,' a competitor emphasizes direct commercial conflict of interest; a 'substitute supplier' focuses on product function substitution and may not be a direct rival. In foreign trade, it is often necessary to mention competitors in quotations or negotiations to demonstrate your own advantages, but avoid disparaging competitors and remain professional.
