Hot Stamping / Foil Stamping

Hot Stamping (also known as Foil Stamping) is a surface decoration process that uses a heated metal die to press colored or metallic foil (typically gold, silver, holographic, etc.) onto a substrate, creating patterns or text with a metallic luster. In foreign trade, this term commonly appears in process requirement descriptions for orders such as packaging, gifts, stationery, textiles, and electronic product casings. Usage scenarios include: customers specifying that product packaging requires gold stamping, silver stamping, or holographic stamping; when quoting, it is necessary to specify the stamping area, foil color, die cost, and whether it is included in the unit price. Precautions: It is necessary to clarify the stamping process type (hot stamping/cold stamping), foil brand (e.g., Kurz, API), stamping position, area, and whether it is environmentally compliant (e.g., RoHS, REACH compliance); the stamping effect is affected by substrate material, pressure, and temperature, and problems such as die sticking, missed stamping, and poor adhesion are prone to occur. It is recommended to confirm by proofing first. Difference from 'Gold Printing': Gold printing uses gold ink for printing, without metallic luster or embossed feel; while hot stamping transfers foil, possessing obvious metallic texture and three-dimensional feel, with higher cost. Difference from 'Embossing': Embossing only presses out concave-convex shapes without colored foil; hot stamping can be combined with embossing to form a hot stamping embossing effect.
