Thickness in foreign trade usually refers to the degree of thickness of a material or product, and is one of the core parameters in specification descriptions. It is commonly found in orders, contracts, letters of credit, and quality inspection documents for products such as metal sheets, plastic films, paper, textiles, and glass. Usage scenarios include: specifying thickness requirements during inquiry and quotation, agreeing on thickness tolerance ranges when signing contracts, and calculating weight, volume, and freight based on thickness. Notes: Different products use different thickness units (such as millimeters, microns, ounces, grams per square meter), so units and measurement standards must be clearly stated in the contract; thickness tolerance directly affects price and acceptance and should be negotiated in advance; thickness is easily confused with terms such as grammage and density—thickness is a linear dimension, while grammage is mass per unit area, and the two are not interchangeable. Difference: Thickness emphasizes physical dimensions, while 'specifications' may include multiple dimensional parameters such as thickness, width, and length; in a letter of credit, if the thickness description does not match the documents, it may lead to refusal of payment.
