Payment Target

Payment Target refers to the specific time node or amount target by which the buyer should complete payment as agreed in a foreign trade contract or order. It is usually used in combination with payment methods (such as T/T, L/C, D/P) to clarify the payment the buyer should make at stages such as goods delivery, document submission, or production completion. Usage scenarios include: 1) installment payment arrangements, such as advance payment, payment before shipment, payment after acceptance; 2) under a letter of credit, requiring the buyer to pay before a specific date; 3) in open account (O/A) sales, agreeing on a credit term target. Notes: the target date or amount must be clearly specified to avoid ambiguity; it should be linked with payment terms and default liability clauses; if the buyer fails to meet the target, penalty interest or contract suspension may be triggered. Difference from 'Payment Terms': payment terms set the overall framework of method, time, and amount, while payment target focuses more on specific quantifiable nodes or amounts and is a refined indicator of payment terms. Unlike 'Due Date', a payment target may include multiple phased targets rather than a single final date.
