Door to CY

Door to CY is a container transport term in international trade and logistics, referring to the carrier receiving cargo from the door point designated by the shipper, responsible for loading, transporting to the port of departure, completing export customs clearance, ocean shipping to the port of destination, and finally delivering at the container yard (CY) at the port of destination. The consignee must pick up the container at the CY at the port of destination and complete import customs clearance and subsequent transportation. This term falls under the scope of multimodal transport and is usually applicable to full container load (FCL). The seller bears all costs and risks from the door point to the port of departure before loading, while the buyer bears the costs and risks after picking up the container at the CY at the port of destination. Usage scenarios: The buyer wishes to handle inland transportation at the port of destination on their own, or the seller has stable trucking resources to provide door-to-port service. Precautions: The specific address of the door point, loading time, and responsible party for customs clearance must be clearly specified; the free storage period at the CY is limited, and overdue storage will incur container demurrage; the difference from Door to Door is that the latter includes inland delivery at the port of destination, and the difference from CY to CY is that the latter does not include trucking at the place of departure. Unlike trade terms such as DAP and DDP, Door to CY only divides logistics responsibilities and does not involve the transfer of cargo ownership and risk, and must be used in conjunction with trade terms.
