DAP (Delivered at Place)

📖 Detailed Explanation

DAP (Delivered at Place) means the seller delivers the goods by placing them at the buyer's disposal at the named place of destination (e.g., an inland point in the importing country). The seller bears all risks and costs of bringing the goods to that place (excluding import customs clearance, duties, and subsequent unloading). It is suitable when the buyer wants the seller to handle international transport and inland transport but to handle import customs clearance itself. Unlike DDP, under DAP the seller is not responsible for import customs clearance and duty payment; unlike CIP, DAP does not require insurance and the delivery place is more flexible. Notes: the specific address of the named place must be clearly specified to avoid ambiguity; the seller should confirm whether inland transport can be arranged; the risk passes when the goods arrive at the named place ready for unloading; the buyer must handle import customs clearance promptly, otherwise demurrage/detention may occur. DAP is common in sea, air, or multimodal transport, especially suitable when the buyer has import qualifications and wants to control customs clearance costs.

📝 Examples

1. We deliver DAP XX warehouse, Pudong New Area, Shanghai; the seller is responsible for transporting the goods from Hamburg to that warehouse, but import customs clearance and duties are borne by us. (Note: the seller handles international transport and the inland leg in China; the buyer handles import customs clearance.) 2. This batch of equipment is delivered DAP Zhengzhou factory; please complete import customs declaration within 3 working days after the goods arrive, otherwise storage fees incurred will be borne by you. (Note: emphasizes the buyer's customs clearance obligation and allocation of overdue costs.)
