Port Call refers to a ship stopping at a port as scheduled to complete operations such as loading and unloading cargo, replenishment, repairs, or crew changes. In international trade and shipping, it is a key node in voyage execution, involving schedules, berths, pilotage, customs clearance, and inspections. Usage scenarios include: shipping lines publishing port call plans, freight forwarders notifying customers of estimated port call times, and charter parties stipulating the number of port calls and cost sharing. Notes: Port call times are affected by weather, port congestion, mechanical failures, etc., which may incur demurrage or diversion fees; under different trade terms (such as FOB, CIF), the risk and cost allocation after port call differs, and responsibilities must be clarified in conjunction with Incoterms. Compared with 'call at', port call emphasizes a single stop; unlike 'closing', port call is a ship action, while closing is the cargo deadline. Foreign trade practitioners should closely monitor port call dynamics, arrange cargo pickup, customs clearance, and onward transport in a timely manner to avoid container demurrage.
