In today's lecture, we're discussing the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study from the University of Melbourne followed 1,000 adults over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park reported 20% lower stress levels. Interestingly, the type of greenery mattered: tree density had a stronger effect than open lawns. The study also found that visiting green spaces at least twice a week, for 30 minutes each time, was linked to better mood, but only if the visit involved physical activity like walking or cycling. Passive sitting had little benefit.
