Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study followed 1,000 adults over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported 20% lower levels of stress and anxiety. Interestingly, the effect was stronger for people who visited the space at least once a week, rather than just having it nearby. The study also found that the type of green space mattered: community gardens had a greater positive effect than large, manicured parks, possibly because they encourage social interaction. However, the researchers noted that access alone isn't enough; design and safety are crucial for encouraging regular use.
