Health Certificate

A Health Certificate is a document issued by the official or authorized agency of the exporting country in international trade, certifying that goods (especially food, agricultural products, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc.) meet the sanitary and safety requirements of the importing country. It is usually issued by customs, inspection and quarantine authorities, or third-party testing institutions to prove that the product contains no harmful substances, no infectious disease pathogens, and complies with hygiene standards. Usage scenarios include: required for customs clearance in the importing country, serving as a negotiating document in letter of credit settlement, stipulated in customer contracts, etc. Precautions: Different countries have different requirements; the EU, US, Japan, etc. have specific regulations on the format and content of health certificates; the certificate must be consistent with the actual goods and must not be forged; sometimes embassy or chamber of commerce authentication is required. It is similar to a 'Sanitary Certificate,' but a Health Certificate focuses more on the product's impact on human health; it differs from a 'Certificate of Free Sale,' which proves the product can be freely sold and does not directly involve health indicators. Foreign trade practitioners should confirm the importing country's requirements in advance to avoid return shipments or fines due to missing certificates.
