Retail Price

Retail Price refers to the price at which goods are sold to individual consumers at the final sales stage, typically formed by retailers adding a markup to procurement costs, including profit, operating expenses, and taxes. In foreign trade, retail price is often used by exporters as a reference for market research, pricing strategies, or negotiations with importers/distributors, but it is not a quotation term directly used by exporters. Usage scenarios include: brand licensing, stipulating terminal price ranges in exclusive agency agreements, pricing on cross-border e-commerce platforms, and determining normal value in anti-dumping investigations. Notes: Exporters cannot directly quote retail prices, as this would squeeze middlemen's profits and may violate local competition laws; retail prices include taxes differently across countries (e.g., typically excluding tax in the US, mostly including VAT in the EU). The difference from 'ex-works price', 'FOB price', and 'wholesale price' lies in: retail price is the end-of-supply-chain price, while other terms correspond to different transaction stages. Foreign trade practitioners need to clarify which stage their quotation corresponds to to avoid confusion.
