Water-Based Varnish

Water-Based Varnish is an eco-friendly overprint coating that uses water as the dispersion medium and contains no or only a minimal amount of organic solvents. It is widely used in printing and packaging, labels, paper glossing, and other processes. In foreign trade, this term is commonly used to describe product surface treatment requirements, especially for exports to markets such as Europe and the United States that have strict restrictions on VOC emissions. Its characteristics include adjustable gloss, fast drying, low odor, and recyclability, but its water resistance and abrasion resistance are usually weaker than those of oil-based varnish or UV varnish. Application scenarios include food packaging, children's books and magazines, cosmetic boxes, and other products with high environmental and safety requirements. Notes: parameters such as gloss level (matte/gloss), solid content, pH value, and viscosity must be clearly specified; the difference from Oil-Based Varnish and UV Varnish lies in environmental friendliness and curing method. Foreign trade contracts should specify whether certifications such as FDA, REACH, and RoHS have been obtained to avoid returns caused by non-compliance with environmental standards.
