Repair Estimate

Repair Estimate refers to a preliminary cost estimate provided by the repair party (usually the exporter, manufacturer, or third-party repair service provider) to the entrusting party (importer or buyer) when goods or equipment are damaged and require repair in foreign trade. This term is commonly used in after-sales repair, return for repair, and chargeable repair outside the warranty period. A repair estimate typically includes a fault description, parts to be replaced, labor costs, logistics costs, and validity period. Notes: 1) An estimate is not the final basis for settlement; actual costs may be adjusted if new problems are found during repair. It is advisable to specify an acceptable deviation range in the contract. 2) It should be clear whether the estimate includes freight, customs duties, and insurance. 3) Unlike a 'Repair Quotation,' an estimate is more of a preliminary assessment, while a quotation is usually formally binding. 4) Unlike a 'Warranty Claim,' an estimate is mostly used for cases outside the warranty period or for man-made damage. Foreign trade practitioners should ensure the terms of the estimate are clear to avoid subsequent disputes.
