Cutting Defect

Cutting Defect is a common quality term in industries involving fabric cutting, such as textiles, apparel, bags, footwear, and headwear. It refers to cut pieces that do not meet specifications during the cutting process due to operational, equipment, pattern, or fabric issues. Common manifestations include size deviation, uneven edges, deformed cut pieces, rough cut edges, layer misalignment, missed cuts, or overcuts. It is often used in inspection reports, quality complaints, claim negotiations, and production rectification notices for foreign trade orders. Notes: First, distinguish cutting defects from fabric defects (such as color shading and pulled yarns), which are raw material defects. Second, together with sewing defects and pressing defects, it is one of the three major garment defects. Third, the acceptance standard for cutting defects (such as AQL sampling level) should be clearly specified in the contract, and photos of cut pieces and size measurement records should be retained as evidence. The difference from 'fabric defects' lies in the responsible stage: cutting defects originate from the cutting process, while fabric defects originate from weaving or dyeing and printing. Foreign trade practitioners should focus on checking cut piece dimensions, cut edge quality, and layer markings during inspection to avoid finished product size out-of-tolerance or customer rejection caused by cutting defects.
