SDS (Safety Data Sheet)

SDS (Safety Data Sheet) is a comprehensive technical document that details the physicochemical properties, health hazards, safe handling, emergency measures, and regulatory requirements of chemicals, typically provided by the manufacturer or supplier. In foreign trade, an SDS is a mandatory accompanying document for the export of chemicals, dangerous goods, and products containing chemical components, used for customs clearance, transportation, warehousing, and safe use by downstream users. Usage scenarios include: submitting to customs, shipping lines, and freight forwarders to prove cargo compliance; providing to customers upon request for risk assessment. Precautions: The SDS must comply with the regulations of the importing country (e.g., EU REACH, US OSHA) and must be the latest version; different modes of transport (sea, air) may require different formats (e.g., IATA). Difference from MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): MSDS is an older term; SDS is the standardized version under GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals), with more standardized content, and is currently the internationally accepted term. Unlike COA (Certificate of Analysis), which focuses on batch quality testing data, SDS focuses on safety information.
