Semi-submersible Vessel

A semi-submersible vessel is a specialized ship characterized by a wide deck and ballastable water tanks. By filling the ballast tanks with water, the hull is submerged to a certain depth, allowing large cargo (such as drilling platforms, ships, modules, etc.) to be floated above the deck. The ballast water is then discharged to raise the ship, completing the loading. Semi-submersible vessels are mainly used to transport ultra-large, ultra-heavy, indivisible cargo, such as offshore engineering equipment, large steel structures, yachts, etc. In foreign trade and logistics, semi-submersible vessel transportation usually involves project logistics, requiring advance booking, special transport permits, and attention to cargo lashing and securing, navigation stability, insurance, and water depth conditions at loading and discharging ports. Unlike ordinary container ships or bulk carriers, semi-submersible vessels do not rely on port cranes but use their own ballast system to complete loading and discharging, making them suitable for 'dry tow' or 'wet tow' transportation. When using semi-submersible vessels, risks such as loading/discharging responsibilities, lashing inspection, and schedule uncertainty must be clarified.
