Logs refer to wood that has been felled and had only branches and leaves removed, bark removed (or not removed), cut to a certain length but not longitudinally sawn or rotary cut. They are a basic raw material in forest product trade. In foreign trade, logs are usually priced by tree species, grade, scaling diameter class, and length, and are commonly sourced from North America, Russia, New Zealand, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Use scenarios include importing logs for domestic lumber processing, plywood manufacturing, papermaking, or biomass energy. Precautions: 1) Logs are often affected by export restrictions or bans in exporting countries (e.g., Russia, Indonesia), so legality and CITES endangered species certificates must be confirmed; 2) Quarantine risk is high, and a phytosanitary certificate must be obtained with attention to fumigation requirements; 3) Measurement methods include scaling, weight, or volume, and contracts must specify the scaling standard (e.g., JAS, Doyle, Scribner); 4) The difference from 'Sawn Timber' lies in whether it is longitudinally sawn, and the difference from 'squared timber' lies in processing precision.
