📖 白话文翻译

After King Min of Qi was killed, his son Fa Zhang changed his name and went into hiding, working as a servant in the household of Tai Shi Jiao in the city of Ju. Tai Shi Jiao's daughter noticed that Fa Zhang had an extraordinary appearance and sensed he was no ordinary man. Moved by compassion, she secretly sent him clothes and food, and eventually became intimate with him. Later, the people of Ju and the surviving ministers of Qi gathered together, seeking the son of King Min to install him as ruler. Only then did Fa Zhang reveal his true identity, and they proclaimed him King Xiang. After King Xiang ascended the throne, he made the daughter of Tai Shi Jiao his queen, and she bore him a son named Jian. Tai Shi Jiao said, "A daughter who marries without a matchmaker is no child of mine—she has defiled our family's honor." Thus he refused to see her for the rest of his life. The queen, however, was virtuous and did not neglect proper conduct even though her father would not receive her. After King Xiang passed away, his son Jian succeeded him. The queen served Qin with prudence and kept faith with the feudal lords, and so for more than forty years during King Jian's reign, the kingdom of Qi was spared the ravages of war.

💡 商战启示录

This historical episode reveals the survival wisdom of concealing one's brilliance during crises and accumulating resources in adversity—a lesson of profound relevance to modern commercial warfare. Before his identity was revealed, Fazhang endured obscurity in humble circumstances, yet won the support of key figures through personal charisma—much like a startup quietly refining its product under the shadow of industry giants, attracting seed users and investors through differentiated value. The daughter of Taishi Jiao, discerning true potential at a glance, risked everything to support him in secret—akin to venture capital making "irrational" bets on promising projects in their earliest stages, as when Sequoia Capital invested in Apple, valuing Jobs's extraordinary vision over the company's then-modest scale. When the old ministers finally gathered, Fazhang proactively revealed his identity—just as a company decisively shifts from "stealth mode" to open competition when a new market matures or a policy window opens, as ByteDance did by perfecting its recommendation algorithm for years before launching TikTok, then expanding globally at the opportune moment. Queen Jun's balancing strategy of "being prudent toward Qin while maintaining trust with the other states" mirrors how modern enterprises navigate "multilateral maneuvering" amid geopolitical tensions or platform ecosystems—maintaining compliant cooperation with powerful players (such as Apple or Google) while preserving the trust of customers and partners, as Huawei has done by adhering to regulations across nations while honoring commitments to clients, sustaining over four decades of stable growth amid complex environments. True masters of commercial warfare understand how to cultivate inner strength during periods of dormancy, seize momentum when the moment of eruption arrives, and build moats of credibility at the height of their power.
