Number of Packages (Pkgs)

Number of Packages (abbreviated as Pkgs) is a key term in foreign trade documents and transportation. It refers to the total number of independent packaging units of goods, such as cartons, drums, bags, pallets, etc. It is used to describe the quantity of packaging and commonly appears in commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, customs declarations, and other documents. Usage scenarios include: calculating freight (charged by package count), checking whether goods are complete, customs inspection, insurance claims, etc. Note: Number of Packages is not the same as Quantity. Quantity refers to the measurement unit of the goods themselves (such as pieces, units, kilograms), while Number of Packages emphasizes the number of outer packages. For example, for 10 cartons of goods, the number of packages is 10, while the quantity may be 1,000 pieces. In addition, if goods are shipped on pallets, the number of packages may refer to the number of pallets, but it must be clarified whether the pallets themselves are included. Together with 'Gross Weight' and 'Volume,' it forms the three key elements of goods description. Difference: Number of Packages focuses on packaging units, while Quantity focuses on commodity units; the two must not be confused.
