ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)

Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) is a term used in international trade to indicate the expected arrival time of cargo or a transport vehicle at the destination port. It is typically provided by the carrier, freight forwarder, or shipping company to coordinate subsequent arrangements such as customs clearance, warehousing, and cargo pickup. Usage scenarios include: logistics processes such as sea, air, and land transport, as well as delivery time stipulations in letters of credit and contracts. Notes: ETA is an estimated time and may change due to factors such as weather, port congestion, or mechanical failure, so it should not be used as a strict delivery deadline; it is the counterpart of ETD (Estimated Time of Departure), with ETA focusing on arrival and ETD focusing on departure; unlike ATA (Actual Time of Arrival), ETA is a planned time while ATA is the actual time of occurrence. Foreign trade practitioners should closely monitor ETA updates, notify customers promptly, and avoid demurrage charges or breach of contract risks. At the same time, if a letter of credit requires submission of ETA proof, ensure that the documents are consistent with the actual situation.
