DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded)

DPU (Delivered at Place Unloaded) is a term in Incoterms 2020, meaning that the seller delivers the goods to the buyer at the named place of destination after unloading them from the means of transport, thereby completing delivery. The seller bears all risks and costs of bringing the goods to the named place of destination and unloading them (including export clearance, main freight, insurance, and unloading charges), while the buyer is responsible for import clearance and subsequent costs. This term applies to any mode of transport and is especially suitable for scenarios where the buyer wants the seller to be responsible for unloading. Unlike DAP (Delivered at Place), DPU requires the seller to unload, whereas DAP does not; unlike DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), under DPU the buyer bears import duties and clearance. Points to note: the seller needs to confirm the unloading capacity and costs at the destination to avoid additional costs caused by unloading delays; the buyer should handle import procedures promptly, otherwise it may bear demurrage charges. In addition, DPU is the only term that requires the seller to unload, and when using it, the named place of destination and unloading responsibility should be clearly specified.
