In foreign trade logistics, 'Customer-Managed Airport' is not a standard trade term, but a colloquial expression for 'designated airport' or 'airport delivery' scenarios. It usually refers to a specific airport agreed upon by the buyer or seller in the contract as the node for cargo delivery, customs clearance, or transshipment. It is commonly used in air exports, such as under FCA, CPT, CIP terms, where both parties must specify the airport name (e.g., PVG, LAX) to allocate risk, costs, and responsibilities. Note: It should be distinguished from 'airport' itself; this expression emphasizes 'customer management,' meaning the customer designates or is responsible for operations at that airport. Also, avoid confusion with the Incoterms 'destination airport,' which only refers to the transport endpoint, whereas 'Customer-Managed Airport' may involve value-added services like customs clearance and warehousing. Compared with 'customer pickup' or 'freight forwarder airport,' the former emphasizes the customer's control over the airport process, while the latter may be fully handled by the freight forwarder. Therefore, contracts should clearly specify the airport code, responsible party, and cost sharing to prevent disputes.
