Fumigation Certificate

A Fumigation Certificate is an official document issued by a quarantine authority or an authorized fumigation company, certifying that goods (typically wooden packaging, agricultural products, furniture, etc.) have undergone effective fumigation treatment to eliminate potential pests (such as pine wood nematodes, longhorn beetles, etc.). This certificate is commonly required in international trade, especially for countries with strict requirements like the US, EU, and Australia, and is one of the essential documents for customs clearance. Use cases include: exporting goods with solid wood packaging, plant products, used machinery, etc. Notes: The certificate must be used within a certain period after fumigation (usually 21 days) and must be consistent with the information on the bill of lading, invoice, and other documents; requirements vary by country, e.g., the US requires the fumigation certificate to be issued by an official agency and accompanied by treatment marks. Unlike a Phytosanitary Certificate, which certifies that goods are free from pests, a fumigation certificate only proves that treatment has been carried out; it is not directly related to a Certificate of Origin. Companies should confirm the specific requirements of the destination country with their freight forwarder and fumigation company in advance to avoid return shipments or fines due to missing or non-compliant certificates.
