Silica Gel Desiccant

Silica Gel Desiccant is a highly active adsorbent material primarily composed of silicon dioxide, featuring a porous structure that effectively absorbs moisture from the air inside packaging through physical adsorption, thereby preventing goods from becoming damp, moldy, or rusty. In foreign trade, this term is commonly used to describe the moisture-proof agent included in product packaging, especially suitable for moisture-sensitive goods such as electronic products, precision instruments, clothing, footwear, furniture, food, and pharmaceuticals during long-distance ocean shipping or warehousing. Usage scenarios include: hanging or placing desiccant bags inside containers, or directly inserting small desiccant packets into product packaging. Precautions: The dosage must be calculated based on cargo characteristics, packaging volume, transportation environment humidity, and shipping duration; some countries (e.g., the United States) require desiccant packaging to be labeled with 'Do not eat' and ingredient information; silica gel desiccant differs from montmorillonite desiccant and calcium chloride desiccant—the former has a moderate moisture absorption rate (about 20%-30%) but is highly safe and reusable (regenerated by heating), while the latter has a higher absorption rate but may produce liquid. Foreign trade contracts should specify the desiccant type, specifications, dosage, and packaging requirements to avoid claims arising from improper moisture protection.
