Crate

A crate is an open or closed packaging container made of wooden slats, plywood, or metal strips, typically with a frame structure, used for transporting heavy, fragile, or ventilated goods. In foreign trade, crates are commonly used for the transport packaging of machinery, large components, glassware, ceramics, etc. Compared with a fully enclosed wooden case, a crate is lighter, less expensive, and facilitates ventilation and inspection of contents; compared with a pallet, a crate provides stronger protection and stacking capability. When using crates, note the following: choose whether to enclose based on cargo characteristics (e.g., add a moisture-proof liner), ensure compliance with the quarantine requirements of the importing country for wood packaging (such as ISPM 15, requiring fumigation or heat treatment and the IPPC mark), and reasonably design load-bearing and reinforcement to avoid damage during transport. In addition, a crate itself is usually not regarded as sales packaging but as transport packaging, and the packaging method should be clearly stated in quotations and documents.
