Third-Party Inspection

Third-Party Inspection refers to the inspection of goods by a third-party inspection agency independent of both the buyer and the seller (such as SGS, BV, Intertek, etc.), which issues a report to certify that the quality, quantity, packaging, etc. of the goods comply with the contract or letter of credit requirements. Use cases include: bulk commodity transactions, import of machinery and equipment, letter of credit settlement (e.g., where an inspection certificate is required), government procurement, etc. Precautions: 1) Inspection standards must be clearly specified in the contract (e.g., ISO, ASTM); 2) Inspection costs are usually borne by the buyer or the seller and must be agreed upon in advance; 3) The inspection report must comply with the letter of credit terms, otherwise payment may be refused; 4) The third-party agency must have the necessary qualifications and credibility. Unlike "factory inspection," third-party inspection is independent and impartial, avoiding conflicts of interest; compared with "pre-shipment inspection," the latter is a specific form of third-party inspection. This term helps reduce transaction risks, especially in long-distance transactions or those with insufficient trust.
