Quality Traceability

Quality Traceability refers to the ability, within a foreign trade supply chain, to record and track a product throughout the entire process from raw material procurement, production and processing, warehousing and logistics, to final delivery. Its core lies in using identifiers such as batch numbers, serial numbers, or QR codes to enable forward (from source to customer) and backward (from customer to source) queries. Use cases include: when a customer complains about a defect in a certain batch of products, the problem stage can be quickly identified; when importing country regulations (such as EU CE, US FDA) require traceability documents; or when a recall occurs, the scope can be precisely defined. Precautions: the traceability system must be established in collaboration with suppliers, and the data should be authentic, continuous, and tamper-proof; traceability requirements differ by country, and sensitive industries such as food, medical devices, and auto parts often have mandatory standards. The difference from 'quality inspection' is that inspection only involves sampling finished products, while traceability emphasizes whole-process records and linkage; unlike 'quality certification', certification is proof of system compliance, while traceability is the historical verifiability of a specific product. Foreign trade practitioners should specify traceability responsibilities, labeling rules, and record retention periods in contracts to avoid compliance risks.
