PAH Testing

PAH Testing refers to the chemical analysis process of detecting the content of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in products. PAHs are a class of carcinogenic and mutagenic organic pollutants commonly found in materials such as rubber, plastics, coatings, and inks. In foreign trade, this test mainly targets consumer goods exported to the EU (such as toys, footwear, gloves, electrical and electronic products), because Entry 50 of Annex XVII of the EU REACH Regulation imposes strict limits on PAH content (e.g., in rubber or plastic components that come into contact with the skin, BaP must not exceed 1 mg/kg, and total PAHs must not exceed 10 mg/kg). Use scenarios include: customers requesting PAH test reports, customs spot checks, or as proof of product compliance. Precautions: choose qualified third-party testing institutions (such as SGS, TÜV), clarify the testing standard (such as AfPS GS 2019:01 PAK), and pay attention to differences in limits for different materials and different contact durations. The difference from RoHS, REACH-SVHC and other tests is that PAH testing specifically targets the specific group of substances known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, rather than heavy metals or other hazardous substances.
