V0 Rating

V0 Rating is one of the highest levels in the UL 94 flammability test standard for vertical burning of plastic materials (second only to 5VA/5VB). It indicates that the material self-extinguishes within 10 seconds when burned vertically and does not ignite cotton below. This term is commonly found in technical specifications of foreign trade products such as electronics, electrical appliances, and automotive parts, used to prove the fire safety of materials. Usage scenarios include: customers requesting UL Yellow Card or test reports, product certification (e.g., CE, CCC) requiring flame retardant compliance, and quality clauses in contracts. Notes: V0 rating applies only to the material itself and does not guarantee that the finished product passes whole-unit fire tests; V0 results may differ for different thicknesses (e.g., 1.5mm, 3.0mm), so test thickness must be specified; the difference from V1 and V2 ratings lies in afterflame time and whether cotton is ignited, with V0 being the most stringent. In foreign trade, suppliers are often required to provide third-party UL certification certificates, avoiding verbal promises only.
