Chemical Resistance

Chemical resistance refers to the ability of a material or product to withstand the corrosive effects of chemicals such as acids, bases, solvents, and oils. It is a key performance indicator in industries such as chemicals, plastics, rubber, coatings, and packaging. In foreign trade, this term is commonly used to describe product technical specifications, quality inspection standards, or usage conditions, especially concerning hazardous chemical packaging, industrial equipment, and protective gear. Usage scenarios include: contract technical annexes, product manuals, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets), quality inspection reports, and responses to customer inquiries. Note: Different markets have different testing standards for chemical resistance (e.g., ASTM, ISO, GB). It is necessary to specify the exact chemical medium, concentration, temperature, and exposure time to avoid vague statements. Also, distinguish it from 'corrosion resistance,' which typically refers to the ability of metals to resist corrosion in environmental media, while chemical resistance more broadly covers non-metallic materials. Additionally, chemical resistance is not permanent; long-term aging or stress may reduce performance. Therefore, in foreign trade communications, suppliers should be required to provide third-party test reports or actual operating condition data.
