Impact Test

Impact Test is a testing item in foreign trade that assesses the impact resistance of product packaging or materials. It is used to evaluate the protective capability of goods when subjected to sudden external forces (such as drops or collisions) during transportation and handling. It is commonly required for exports of fragile items such as electronics, ceramics, and glassware. Use cases include: customers requesting impact test reports under standards such as ISTA or ASTM D5276, or the report serving as one of the documents for letter of credit negotiation. Precautions: the test standard (e.g., ISTA 1A, ASTM D4169), drop height, direction, and acceptance criteria must be clearly specified; test samples should represent mass production conditions; the report must be issued by a CNAS- or ILAC-accredited laboratory to avoid returns caused by non-compliance with standards. Difference from 'Vibration Test': vibration testing simulates continuous shaking, while impact testing simulates instantaneous impact. Difference from 'Drop Test': drop testing is a specific form of impact testing, but impact testing can also include inclined impact, horizontal impact, etc. Foreign trade contracts should specify which party bears the testing costs and how non-conforming results will be handled.
