Quality Inspection (QC)

Quality Inspection (QC) is an activity in international trade where the buyer or seller examines the quality, quantity, packaging, etc. of goods to ensure they meet the standards specified in the contract. It usually occurs during production, before shipment, or after arrival, and is performed by third-party inspection agencies (such as SGS, BV) or by the buyer and seller themselves. Usage scenarios include: contract stipulation of inspection clauses, letter of credit requiring inspection certificates, resolution of delivery disputes, etc. Precautions: inspection standards must be clear (e.g., international standards, industry standards, or samples), inspection time and place should be clear, and the party bearing costs must be agreed upon. Unlike Quality Assurance (QA), QC focuses on finished product inspection, while QA focuses on quality management throughout the production process; compared with commodity inspection, QC is broader, as commodity inspection specifically refers to official mandatory inspection. Foreign trade practitioners should attach importance to QC to avoid rejection, claims, or credit damage due to quality nonconformity.
