Payment Index

The Payment Index is a reference index or summary of clauses in a foreign trade contract or order used to clarify payment conditions, payment time nodes, payment proportions, and corresponding trigger events. It is not a standardized term defined by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) or the World Trade Organization (WTO), but rather a tool concept used internally by enterprises or industries to facilitate the management of complex payment arrangements. Usage scenarios include: installment payments for large orders, combined payment via letter of credit and telegraphic transfer, and payments based on production progress or shipment nodes. Precautions: 1) The index must be consistent with the main contract clauses to avoid ambiguity; 2) It should clearly list the trigger conditions for each payment (such as contract effectiveness, production completion, shipment, arrival at port, acceptance, etc.), proportion, and deadline; 3) Unlike 'Payment Terms,' which are legally binding specific agreements, the payment index is more of an internal management or summary reference and cannot replace formal clauses. Compared with 'Payment Schedule,' the payment index emphasizes index numbers or key node correspondences for quick reference.
