Payment Medium

Order Payment Medium refers to the specific instrument or channel agreed upon by the buyer and seller in international trade to complete the payment of goods, such as telegraphic transfer (T/T), letter of credit (L/C), documentary collection (D/P, D/A), bills of exchange, promissory notes, checks, and emerging electronic payment platforms. Its core function is to address the credit and security issues of cross-border fund transfers. In terms of usage scenarios, it is commonly found in contract payment clauses, proforma invoices, or applications for opening letters of credit, for example, stipulating that 'the payment medium shall be an irrevocable sight letter of credit'. Precautions include: different media have different fund costs, arrival speeds, and risk-bearing parties; for instance, T/T in advance favors the seller, while L/C involves bank credit but has cumbersome procedures; also, foreign exchange controls and anti-money laundering compliance requirements must be considered. The difference from 'Payment Method' is that payment method focuses on the transaction structure (e.g., prepayment, open account), while payment medium emphasizes the tool to realize that method; compared with 'Payment Terms', the latter covers a broader scope including time, amount, and medium. When choosing, it is necessary to match the transaction amount, mutual trust level, and country risk.
