B/L Fee

Bill of Lading Fee (B/L Fee) refers to the administrative charge levied by the shipping company or its agent on the cargo owner (usually the shipper or consignee) for issuing, processing, or amending the Bill of Lading during international trade and ocean shipping. Usage scenarios include: issuing original B/L, telex release B/L, sea waybill, or amending B/L content (such as consignee, notify party, description of goods, etc.) at the customer's request. Notes: The B/L fee is usually not included in the ocean freight and must be confirmed separately; charges vary greatly among shipping companies and may be levied repeatedly for amendments or multiple issuances; for LCL cargo, the B/L fee may already be included in the LCL charge, so it should be verified in advance. Difference from 'Document Fee': Document Fee covers the processing of the entire set of shipping documents (such as customs declaration, packing list, etc.), while the B/L fee only applies to the Bill of Lading itself. Difference from 'Telex Release Fee': Telex Release Fee is an additional charge for releasing cargo via telex release, while the B/L fee is the basic charge for issuing the B/L. Foreign trade practitioners should clarify the B/L fee amount and whether it can be waived at the time of booking to avoid unexpected disputes at the destination port.
