Document Cut-off

Document Cut-off refers to the deadline set by the carrier (shipping line, airline, etc.) for submitting all documents required for cargo export in foreign trade logistics. It is commonly used in sea freight, air freight, and express delivery, and is a key milestone for smooth shipment. Usage scenarios include: freight forwarders submitting Shipping Instruction (SI) to the shipping line, customs declaration documents, AMS/ENS and other declaration information. Missing the document cut-off may result in amendment fees, late declaration penalties, or even failure to load the cargo. Notes: Document Cut-off is usually earlier than Closing Time, which is the deadline for cargo entering the port; different shipping lines, routes, and ports have different rules, and it may be adjusted due to holidays. It should be distinguished from Closing Time and CY Cut-off: Document Cut-off is for documents, Closing Time is for customs release, and CY Cut-off is for physical port entry. Foreign trade practitioners should confirm the specific document cut-off time with the freight forwarder in advance, reserve sufficient time to prepare documents, and avoid delays.
