Certificate Number

The Certificate Number is a unique identification number on an Insurance Certificate issued by an insurance company in foreign trade insurance. An Insurance Certificate is a simplified form of an Insurance Policy, typically used under CIF or CIP trade terms, provided by the seller as proof of insurance for the buyer. This number is used for quick inquiry and verification of insurance information, such as the applicant, insured, cargo description, insured amount, coverage, and voyage. Usage scenarios include: when a letter of credit requires submission of an insurance certificate, the bank reviews the documents; the importer uses this number to claim against the insurance company; customs may require it during declaration. Note: The certificate number must be associated with the policy number or open policy number, and the content must be consistent with the commercial invoice, bill of lading, etc., otherwise payment may be refused. The difference from the policy number is that the policy is a formal contract, while the certificate is a simplified proof with lower legal effect, but the number is equally unique. Foreign trade practitioners should ensure the number is accurate to avoid claim delays due to spelling errors.
