Heavy-lift & Oversized Cargo

Heavy-lift & Oversized Cargo refers to cargo that exceeds the carrying or handling capacity of conventional transport equipment (such as standard containers, ordinary trucks, or ordinary cranes) in terms of weight or dimensions. Typically, a single piece weighs over 40 tons, or exceeds 12 meters in length, or over 3 meters in height/width. Use cases include import/export transportation in project logistics (e.g., power generation equipment, large machinery, wind turbine blades, transformers, tunnel boring machines, etc.). Precautions: route surveys must be conducted in advance (bridge/culvert height and weight limits, turning radii); special vessels (heavy-lift ships, semi-submersible vessels) or special vehicles must be selected; and over-limit transport permits must be obtained. In ocean shipping, charges are often based on 'measurement tons' or 'weight tons,' and additional fees may arise for lashing/securing and floating crane rental. Distinction from other terms: 'Heavy-lift & Oversized Cargo' emphasizes both excess weight and excess size, whereas 'overweight cargo' focuses only on weight, and 'oversize cargo' focuses only on volume. Unlike 'breakbulk cargo,' heavy-lift & oversized cargo typically requires customized logistics solutions.
